Apis is a female HiveWing dragonet who currently resides in Lake Scorpion Academy, a Pantalan equivalent to Jade Mountain Academy formed soon after the othermind was defeated.
Appearance[]
Apis has reddish orange scales pattened with black and yellow. Her underbelly is a creamy yellow while her horns are a greyish brown. She has a generally light and sleek build. There is a toxic stinger on her tail.
Personality[]
Apis is much kinder and friendlier than HiveWings are stereotyped to be. However, many of the SilkWings and LeafWings in her school try to avoid her, at least to some degree, due to her being a HiveWing. This has caused her to be both lonely and socially insecure.
Apis also tends to not be too open about her feelings. In addition, it often takes her a while to trust others, with exceptions.
She tends to get angry and overwhelmed in tense situations. Oftentimes she hides fear or nervousness with anger.
In addition, Apis enjoys learning and figuring things out, and likes to read.
Backstory (before the othermind’s defeat)[]
Apis was born in Mantis Hive. Her growing up there contributed to her enjoyment of learning, due to Mantis Hive focusing more on academics than the other hives.
At a young age, she had begun to notice that HiveWing society was unfair to the SilkWings. As she got older, her realisation of how bad a problem their society was only grew.
When she first experienced Queen Wasp's mind control, she hated it. She felt trapped inside herself, without any way to stop what Wasp was making her do. Another thing she disliked was that other dragons were okay with it.
A few years after her first experience of the mind control, she was coming home when she noticed posters on the wall stating that the Book of Clearsight said nothing about the SilkWings and LeafWings joining under HiveWing rule and that Queen Wasp made it all up. This all made sense to Apis. After all, Queen Wasp was power hungry, and she would have wanted more dragons under her tyrannical rule.
When the othermind took control of most Pantalan dragons who hadn't fled to Pyrrhia, Apis was back to being mind-controlled. But this time, the mind control was possibly worse than Wasp's. Apis was being used as a HiveWing soldier. The othermind weaponized her toxic stinger. She tried to fight back, but it was no use. After a few horrible weeks of being the Breath of Evil's weapon, the mind control suddenly stopped. Apis was free. The othermind was completely gone.
Peace had begun between the Pantalan tribes and Apis was extremely glad that Wasp was gone. Around a month after the othermind's defeat, Apis became a student at the newly formed school Lake Scorpion Academy.

Apis will be the POV character of the first book.
Powers (More Spoilers For After The Othermind)[]
Apis has a weak shadowstone power that was gained from playing around shadowstone as a young dragonet. This power is the ability to WIP
Relationships[]
Sunset[]
Apis and Sunset are good friends. However, it took a long time for Sunset to be comfortable around Apis due to Apis being a HiveWing. Apis was originally quite nervous around Sunset too due to her closed-off, slightly aggressive personality.
Shadow[]
Being very extroverted, Shadow quickly approached Apis and the two became good friends in no time. Apis is impressed with Shadow's foresight.
Thistle[]
Thistle was at first one of the only dragons attending Lake Scorpion Academy who tried to befriend Apis. Apis is very comfortable around Thistle and the two enjoy spending time together.
Oakleaf[]
Along with Thistle, Oakleaf was one of the first dragons to approach Apis. Oakleaf and Apis also both struggle to fit in, due to being a hybrid and being a HiveWing, respectively.
